Hatamikia becomes artist of the year in Iran

Iran’s Art Bureau of the Islamic Ideology Dissemination Organization has announced Ebrahim Hatamikia as the Islamic Revolution Artist of the Year for the Persian calendar year of 1397. He  won nomination for the same title last year too, for making and screening of his film ‘Damascus Time’.

Hatamikia has competed with three other filmmakers and documentarians, including Mehdi Naqavian, Mohammad-Ali Bashe-Ahangar, and Kourosh Zarei to attain the title.

The director expressed joy in his acceptance speech saying, ‘I’m so happy to be seen and recognized in the fortieth anniversary of the Islamic Revolution. It is a precious moment to me and I am proud of it’.

Hatamikia has been active in the arena of filmmaking for almost 38 years. He established himself as a director who addresses issues related to the Iraq-Iran war and its aftermath with films such as ‘The Scout’, ‘From Karkheh to Rhine’ and ‘The Glass Agency’.

He has so far received several domestic and international awards for ‘In the Name of My Father’, ‘Red Ribbon’, ‘The Glass Agency’, ‘From Karkheh to Rhine’, ‘Mohajer (Immigrant)’, ‘The Scout’, ‘The Purple’, and ‘Che (Chamran)’.

He won the best director award at the 36th edition of the Fajr Film Festival for directing ‘Damascus Time.
